Fiibians Spanning International Boundaries: Educational Tours To Slovenia And Finland

FIIB, in its endeavor to instill global perspectives and broader outlook in the young managers, organized two educational tours one to Slovenia & Italy and another to Finland during 23rd September to 2nd October.
A group of first year students of FIIB's PGDM program started for Slovenia and Italy, as a part of their course, on 23rd September accompanied by Prof. PUB Rao and Prof. Swanand Deodhar. Theme of the trip was Sustainability and Environment. During the trip students were provided insights into the sustainability domain by faculty members from University of Ljubljana and Government of Slovenia including Dr. Lucka Bogataj who shared 2007 Nobel Peace Prize as a member of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The sessions focused on issues such as climate change, environment management, and integrating sustainability with the business. Students also visited Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO); one of the constituent organizations of United Nations. There students were introduced to scope and operations of FAO along with some prominent cases where FAO successfully engaged with the local authorities to tackle various issues of sustainability. Apart from formal sessions, students also interacted with locals and visited sites of historical importance including Roman Colosseum and Vatican City. These and other such occasions helped them to develop cultural intelligence ; especially towards southern Europe.
Another group of fourteen PGDM students took off for Finland on 25th September along with Prof. KBC Saxena and Prof. Kalpana Chauhan. The trip was organized with the objective of giving students international academic and industrial exposure. During the trip, students visited three companies- Nokia at Salo, Metso Automation and Demola (an open innovation company). Students also attended various seminars at University of Tampere on the topics like Open Innovation, Mass customization, Research Methods and Social Media. The students explored the city of Tampere and Helsinki and got acquainted with the cultural ethos of Europe in general and Finland in particular.
On the whole both visits were fruitful. Students will now be working towards preparing reports on these visits. Knowledge Sharing and Feedback sessions are planned subsequently.
