Fight Cancer And Treat Diabetes With These Flavonols

By:

The flavonols are a sub-class of phytonutrients (a group of chemical compouds which can be found in plants and have numerous health benefits but are not considered essential in humans). Although they are not believed to be essential in humans, research has revealed that they can help fight cancer, treat diabetes and more. In this article I will be discussing 3 of the flavonols in more detail and outlining exactly how they can boost your health.

1) GINGEROL:

Gingerol is a flavonol that can be found in fresh ginger. Its main roles in the body are to boost the immune system (which allows your body to fight disease and infection effectively) and prevent various types of cancer (including breast cancer, colon cancer and ovarian cancer). Provisional research suggests that gingerol may also reduce unnecessary inflammation within the body and treat high blood pressure but more information is required before these provisional health benefits can be confirmed.

2) ISORHAMNETIN:

Isorhamnetin is a flavonol that can be found in various plant based foods. Some of the best sources of this flavonol are almonds (7.05 milligrams (mg) per 100g), chives (6.75mg per 100g), dill weed 43.5mg per 100g) and turnip greens (between 5mg and 10mg per 100g).

Isorhamnetin acts in a protective capacity in the human body by preventing arteriosclerosis (the hardening and loss of elasticity within the arteries), high blood pressure and various types of cancer (including esophageal cancer, liver cancer and lung cancer). It can also alleviate many of the complications associated with diabetes and keep the heart healthy.

3) KAEMPFEROL:

Kaempferol is a flavonol which can be found in fruits, vegetables and even tea. Some of the richest food sources of this flavonol are apples (0.02mg per 100g), black tea (1.31mg per 100g), blueberries (1.81mg per 100g), turnip greens (11.87mg per 100g) and spinach (7.64mg per 100g).

In terms of health, kaempferol acts as an antidepressant and a phytoestrogen (a compound which fights the action of estrogen and can help prevent cancer, heart disease and osteoporosis (reduced bone mineral density)). It also prevents arteriosclerosis, heart disease and various cancers (including breast cancer, lung cancer, ovarian cancer, pancreatic cancer and prostate cancer).

SUMMARY:

Whilst the flavonols are not considered essential to human health, they are still highly beneficial to your body. As you can see gingerol, isorhamnetin and kaempferol can collectively fight cancer, treat diabetes and much more. So if you are not currently eating the flavonol rich foods listed in this article, now is the time to start making some changes and adding them to your diet.
