Fibre optics has been used extensively for the last two decades and it will continue to be in demand along cutting edge technologies. Due to its flexibility and its original function of transmitting and receiving light they are now widely used in digital cameras for few purposes such as medical imaging, mechanical imaging, plumbing and communication. Now zooming into medical imaging the physical characteristic of a fiber optic makes it as the perfect tool for flexible image bundles, light conductors, laser delivery system, and also illumination. This includes X-ray imaging, endoscopy, surgical microscopy and other medical equipments. Fiber optic instrument in the medical field requires very specific and precise design with unique characteristic. Thus fibers are utilized as an integrated component of medical equipments or as an individual light source. Meanwhile in mechanical imaging fiber optic is used to inspect mechanical welds in pipes and engines which includes in the aircraft, cars and space shuttles. The use of fiber optic compared to copper wires in the aircraft would reduce the weight of wiring to a 1/10 of the original weight thus increasing the aircrafts carrying capacity at once. Fiber optic is used to operate the communication equipments, control the mechanisms, instruments panels and the lightings. Optical fiber holography is a three-dimensional imaging technology used to capture highly realistic images of the aircraft to check for any flaws internally. This technology can also be used to track and measure the velocity of the moving particles of an aircraft like the engine which leads to increased engine control and ensuring safety. The use of fiber technology in the aircrafts avionic system compared to copper wires promotes cost efficiency for the aviation industry. Since more channels can be supported using fiber optic at the same cost of copper wiring network thus creating a bigger demand for fiber optics network in this industry. Meanwhile small fiber optics cameras inserted through the sewer lines are used to inspect sewer lines by the plumbers. This sophisticated method allows the plumbers to have a complete visual of the conditions of the pipes thus saving the plumbers time in making an accurate evaluation of the sewers.
