Fiber optic cable is a cable that has a glass covering and data can travel in super sonic speed. Fiber channels are used in computer networks. Computer networks are a series of computers that are connected to the server and to each other where necessary.

Each user will be able to retrieve the information in the server on real time basis and information will be updated as well. Networks are used in Medium and Big organizations. In bog organizations, the network extends to its clients and to the suppliers.

In a network, fast and reliable information is needed. This is to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the said organization. Hence many organizations are opting for fiber channels. Fiber channels are a high speed protocol that handles the transfers of information within a particular network. It enables the retrieving and the storing of data on a timely basis. At present, the rate of transfer is 4 Gbps. However in time even this will become obsolete.

Working in the telecommunication industry allows me to see how speed is needed when one is editing a particular scene which needs to be placed for viewing within minutes or receiving the information. The portages will be stored in the server and there will be many editors who will extract these portages. Hence speed is a priority here.

With a fibre channel, once these portages have been edited, then it can be uploaded back again in the server. Hence when it comes to time, there is no wastage of it. Since the files to be edited are big, if there were not fibre channels, then it will take at least 3 to 24 hours just to encode the photage. The shots will be edited on a daily basis.

Can you imagine the amount of time that will be wasted by the editors just to retrieve the information from the server and to download it back to the server? Yes a lot of time will be wasted. Hence the usage of Fibre channels leads to an efficient and effective usage of time and money.
