Fiat Remain The Green Giants

By:

For the second year in a row Fiat have managed to have the lowest average value for CO2 emissions for vehicles sold during 2008. This shows that Fiat are performing extremely well when it comes to producing 'green cars.'

Recently people seem to be becoming more concerned with the damage cars can cause the environment too - which may bode well for Fiat car sales. When looking for a new car people also want one that will promise them good fuel economy so that they can squeeze every last penny out of their fuel.

Fiat has been involved in helping to develop a range of new technology to help lower CO2 emissions. The innovative EcoDrive system teaches you how to drive 'ecologically' - which in turn saves you petrol and benefits the environment. You insert a USB stick into a port in the cabin on the Fiat 500. Whilst you drive it monitors your driving style and then you can transfer the data into a computer. You can then view information regarding your fuel consumption and emissions - it will then give you advice on how to improve your driving style to get the most out of your fuel tank.

Fiat hope to implement the new technology across their collection of vehicles to help reduce CO 2 emissions and lower fuel consumption. Take the Fiat 500 Start & Stop - this model has been loaded with new technology to help lower the CO2 emissions. It also comes fitted with the EcoDrive system as standard, and a unique Start & Stop engine. The Start & Stop engine (as the name suggests) starts and stops the engine when it is needed to save you more fuel.

The engines in the Fiat 500 also meet the Euro 4 emissions standard and when the new standards are introduced in 2009 the engine will meet the tougher Euro 5 emissions standard - which ensures that the Fiat 500 is one green car! Eventually this technology will be found across a range of their cars.

Another factor which will benefit Fiat is the latest 'mini-craze' for city cars. People seem to be going mad for fuel-efficient, agile and stylish city-cars. Fiat seem to specialise in this market with their 500, the Fiat Panda, the Fiat Punto and the Fiat Bravo.

So, at a time when the environment is a top priority for many, Fiat are taking important steps to ensure that when people look for a fuel efficient car - they think Fiat.
