Fender Standard Stratocaster: Review

Fender Standard Stratocaster: Review

By:

Made in Fender's Mexican factory, the Fender Standard Stratocaster has kept the tradition of the Strat. It has the fast-action neck, c-shaped alder body, three single-coil pickups, and standard synchronized trem. The fingerboard offers a choice between maple and rosewood.

Features: This guitar has a 21-fret maple neck for lightning-fast action. It comes with the classic synchronized trem that is, by the way, perfect for that intro on "Foxy Lady". The main volume control, the tone controls, the three single coils, along with the 5-way switch allow you to play a wide variety of music. Also, the recessed jack is a nice touch. Some people are concerned with the fact that the guitar is made in Mexico, but when you play with it, you will find that it is really not an issue. At the end of the day, it all comes down to how it feels and plays which make the MIM thing irrelevant.

Sound: This guitar suits any styles of music, from classic rock to blues. With that said, it is not really meant to play heavier metal. The classic Strat sound is amazing and recognizable, you can't mistaken it for any other guitars. The neck pickups plus the right pedal settings and a regular amp (like the Marshall MG10CD) will make some really great noise. There is a slight hum problem, but it's not an issue if you play it through an amp and on low volume. The pickups sometimes is a bit weak on hammer-ons.

Action, Fit and Finish: The shape is fine as how it came. However, the bridge tend to pop up after a while. The tuning is just fine, and it makes some nice squeals. The action is not the greatest but it is okay. It could have been a bit lower. The neck is lightning-fast. At D string it makes a slight buzz when played unplugged. However, it is not a serious issue if you play it through an amp anyway. If you are used to playing fast, get a maple neck.

Overall: This Strat matches most of the styles of music perfectly. It is a guitar with great musical versatility and durability, especially at the price range. If you put on a better bridge, it would be perfect.
