Fees For Incorrect Package Labeling

By:

When you ship with a courier company, it is important that you always try to provide them with the correct shipping address for your packages. This is not only important so that your packages reach your customers in a timely fashion, but is also important because most delivery services will charge you a fee or surcharge if you provide them with an incorrect shipping address. They do this because your mistake is almost assuredly going to cost them money.

The reason this type of mistake is going to be costly to the courier company is because of the time that it is going to take them to correct it. They may have to figure out where the package is supposed to go, retrieve it if it was delivered to the wrong address, and may have to ship it back to your location, in essence performing the service twice which they were paid to perform once. Whatever the action that they need to take, there is a very good chance that it will be more costly to them than simply shipping the package was supposed to be.

You don't have to provide incorrect shipping information ever though if you take advantage of all the tools that courier companies have available for you to use. The software features that courier companies use make it so that you can verify that you have entered the correct shipping information in a couple of ways before your shipment gets picked up.

Normally, when a company ships their products to customers they get several repeat or return customers. Whenever a customer orders a product from you, you should enter their address into the online address book that is included in your courier's software. If you do, the next time that customer orders, as long as the order got to them correctly the first time, you will be able to be confident that you're shipping to the right address with a single click.

Some courier companies have another feature which is built into their online order placement or address book software that is called address verification. This is a program that checks any shipping address against a formula for verifying legitimate US addresses. This can catch many small mistakes that are made by a typo, as many of these will show up in the system as addresses which don't actually exist. Using this feature can also help save you money on mistakenly entered addresses.
