Feel The Spirit Of The South In New Orleans

There's so much to see and do in New Orleans that visitors are hard-pressed to fit everything in! If you'd like a lively and fun escape to "the city that care forgot", check out the New Orleans vacation rentals. Whatever type of accommodations you prefer, whether it would be New Orleans hotels in the French Quarter, the homey care you receive at New Orleans bed and breakfasts, or the privacy of New Orleans vacation homes, this city offers it all.

The next step after finding your place to stay is harder: choosing which of the many activities you want to enjoy. You should probably start by exploring the French Quarter. You can walk along the famous Bourbon and Decatur Streets, immersing yourself in New Orleans atmosphere. You might also take a mountain bike, perhaps riding all the way uptown to the beautiful Garden District. Or you could leave your New Orleans bed and breakfast to tour the Garden District on a streetcar. This, the oldest continuously operating streetcar in the country, travels up St. Charles Avenue, past marvelously grand homes, Tulane University and Loyola University. While in the area, you might choose to dine anywhere from the 1950's-era Camellia Grill to one of the finest restaurants in town: Commander's Place. Take a walking tour of the Garden District to learn more about the history and architecture of the neighborhood.

You can also head for the south end of the French Quarter, where you'll find the French Market. Here you can enjoy live music while you shop at the Community Flea market and check out kiosks with fares ranching from Cajun spices and jewelry to voodoo tokens. At the Farmer's Market you'll find wonderfully fresh local food, including produce and seafood. Perhaps you'll pick some up to fix your own delightful meals back at one of our New Orleans vacation homes. The French Quarter also offers some of the best antique shopping opportunities in the country.

You can continue to enjoy the sights of the city around New Orleans hotels with a picturesque horse-drawn carriage ride. River cruises are popular as well, strolling up and down the Mississippi. You can take a 10-minute ferry ride to Algiers point, or you can take a riverboat cruise along the river, perhaps even a jazz-themed cruise with dinner.

Evenings in New Orleans hold their own vivacious appeal. You can eat at any number of renowned restaurants featuring Cajun food, and follow that with an evening visiting famous local taverns, like Pat O'Brien's or the Napoleon House Bar. Enjoy a range of music in various locations, ranging from Dixieland jazz to traditional zydeco to classical piano. Perhaps you'll stop by Mulate's or Michaul's Live Cajun Music Restaurant for some authentic Cajun dancing. If you're particularly bold, you might even join in!

If you're traveling with kids, you might want to check out some of the numerous other fun and interesting activities of New Orleans. Families like to visit the Aquarium of the Americas or the New Orleans Zoo, in Audobon Park, with its exotic collection of animals living amongst lush gardens. For a fun dose of history, you can visit Jean Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop, purportedly a former front for the pirate's activities 200 years ago.
