Set in the 1940s, Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams both shine in their leading roles as youngsters who fall deeply in love. A number of obstacles, however, get in their way. Unlike some of the simplistic stories on satellite TV, this full-length masterpiece did quite well in theatres and reveals more than an idealized version of a feeling. Whether you are a hopeless romantic yourself or a bit of a cynic, the purposeful ambiguity of the tale, with a twist at the end, should keep you intrigued.

Five years earlier, another one of Sparks most well-known movies was released. Message in a Bottle, starring Kevin Costner, Paul Newman, and Robin Wright Penn, is based on an unlikely premise. Theresa, a newspaper researcher, discovers a bottle with a love letter stuffed inside of it while walking a beach in Cape Cod. Yet as much as the plot begins on a hard-to-believe note, the characters gradually come to life and will have you rooting for true love to prevail. If you are looking to improvise a great date night indoors, look for either of these films on satellite TV.

While early movies were made in standard image quality, high definition has become the top choice in recent years. As a result, you can enjoy an even more intense experience while following the romance of on-screen characters. After all, satellite TV not only brings you top classics from past decades, but it also offers recent releases. Check out The Last Song (2010), for example, if you want to see Sparks work as a novelist and scriptwriter. Miley Cyrus proves she is all grown up, acting beside Liam Hemsworth as two starry-eyed youth in a turbulent time. Many coming-of-age themes are also touched upon, making this a memorable story to watch.
