Features Of The Best Cigar Lighters

By:

Many smokers ask me which cigar lighters are the most reliable. One lighter may be the best for one smoker but the worst for another. Thus, instead of listing specific lighters or brands, Ill head you off in the right direction by listing features that I look for in a durable lighter.

Lets get one thing straight, folks: a cigar lighter is NOT the same thing as a cigarette lighter.

A cigar needs more heat to ignite and takes quite a bit longer to light than a cigarette does. This is because cigars and cigarettes are made of different tobacco ingredients. But why the need for a cigar lighter?

A cigarette lighter uses a different type of fuel than a cigar lighter. Cigar lighters contain butane fuel, cigarette lighters use lighter fluid. Butane is odorless and burns cleaner and hotter than standard lighter fluid. Because it is odorless, butane will not add unwanted flavors to your stogies; lighter fluid in cigarette lighters will.

Now that you understand the importance of a cigar lighter, lets focus on some aspects of a dependable, good cigar lighter you should look for. In random order:

1. A good-size fuel tank Lessens the frequency of necessary refills.
2. Fuel level viewing window Lets you know exactly how much fluid is in your lighter and gives you a heads-up for refills.
3. Ergonomic side-trigger more natural position for trigger.
4. A second trigger Press the trigger and out pops a second flame to help you light your big stogies!
5. Lighter with cover (NOT a flip top lid!) A lighter with a recessed cover is best because it moves out of the way when lighting. A flip top lid protects the lighting implement when youre not using your lighter but gets in the way when you do use your lighter.
6. Recessed lighting nozzle Come in handy in torrential weather. The recessed lighting nozzle helps keep the flame strong and also reduces the amount of dust and debris that may collect in the nozzle.
7. Large, one-finger flame-adjustment knob The flame on your lighter needs to be changed depending on the weather (which we all know is usually ever-changing). An easy to use flame-adjustment knob is important and more convenient than the small screwdriver some lighters require for adjustments.

With that, I wish you good luck shopping for a dependable, worthy cigar lighter. Happy cigar lighting!
