Mobile Broadband uses several network standards and this will include GPRS, WiMAX, EV-DO, IPW, LTE, 3G, Flash OFDM, iBurst UMTS/HSPA as well as other systems that are satellite based.

There are several devices that are used to ensure that mobile broadband is working properly and this will include Personal Data Assistants (PDAs), Cell Phones, Smartphones, PC Cards, Express Cards, Compact Flash, USB Flash drives also referred to as Dongles, MiFi and SDIO among other devices. Most of the devices that support mobile broadband are manufactured by the some of the biggest telecommunication companies in the world and this will include Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Qualcomm, Research In Motion for Blackberrys, Panasonic, Nokia, Motorola, LG Electronics, Hewlett Packard (HP), HTC Corporation, Huawei, ZTE Corporation and Freeware Technologies among other companies.

Mobile broadband has a lot of benefits and this will include being able to stream heavy data such as downloading music, online video streaming, video conferencing and viewing photo albums on the Web among others. 3G has ensured that all users of mobile devices that support mobile broadband are able to do more. 4G is even better given that it has 10 times the speed of a 3G connection having speeds of between 700 Kilobytes per second to 1.7 megabytes per second for downloading files and between 500 Kilobytes per second to 1.2 Megabytes per second for uploading files.

The download and upload speeds however vary depending on several conditions which affect the signal strength. Mobile broadband also offers users with wireless freedom as well as convenience. This will mean that users do not necessarily have to be in a wireless hotspot to access the internet as it goes with them everywhere they are. This is ideal for those people who travel regularly and still need to do some work on the internet or those who dont have a specific office to work from.
