Faux Finish And Wall Painting Techniques

Faux Finish And Wall Painting Techniques

By:

Faux painting techniques are acrylic painting techniques that are multilayered, in other words one over top of another of course each layer has to be dried prior to applying coats over top of it. Some acrylic painting techniques require a moist on dried surface for finishing.

The painting techniques are all different using different types of tools. And the ingredients you use usually are mixed in with something called a "faux finish glaze". In almost all the situations you mix your main color paint with this faux finish glaze 50-50.
Faux finish is something that should be first practiced somewhere other than where you want to put it permanently. I would grab a large enough piece of drywall to practice on if you're doing faux on a wooden structure such as a mantle or window casing or door casing, then practice your technique on these items first.
Read up on the particular type of decorative wall painting that you want to perform, and make sure you have the adequate recommended tools and your familiar on the use of them.
Most times you will need a base coat paint, I usually use a good quality eggshell latex paint as a base coat of course the base coat should be the proper color that is required for the effect and you will need a gallon of the specialty faux color that you want to apply a gallon of glaze coat which you will mix with your color.

Some effects require you use different types of brushes some effects even require a wide wallpapering brush to create lines with, you might need to use plastic sheets, you might need to use sea sponges, and even some cases wrinkled paper (ordinary newspaper which you loosely ball up into a bunch and dab it onto your wall creating a special effect and so on.

The possibilities are faux finishing our endless. And as you have time to experiment you might come up with a look that can really excite you.
