Fathers Day History And Gift Guide

Fathers Day History And Gift Guide

By:

Fathers Day has been celebrated for one hundred years this summer. The day itself is in honor of Fathers everywhere. In over 50 countries around the world the date will be the third Sunday of June. Other countries have completely different dates for Fathers Day.

Mothers Day was established before Fathers Day. Fathers Day is said to have started in the American state of Washington by a young lady named Sonora Dodd.

Her father was a single parent who was widowed with 6 children who he raised himself. He brought up his family on a farm in a rural environment. The story goes that Sonora was at a Mothers Day service when she was inspired to create a day to celebrate the love and support given by her Father. On 19th July 1910 which was her Fathers birthday, Sonora and family celebrated Fathers Day.

It was not until decades later that Fathers Day became made official in the USA and then around the world.

Fathers like Mothers can have unlimited duties. Some would say a womans work is never done, but let us assume that your Dad has been busy with his family too. Maybe your Dad has been a good reliable taxi service, or become a low interest rate bank?

Maybe he has helped with homework and coached your footballing skills. Perhaps treated you to the new outfit you had set your heart on. For adults Dads can become excellent babysitters of their Grandchildren. The list is endless and Fathers Day is the perfect time of year to show your appreciation of his love and support.

Finding gifts can be difficult. Most Dads must have an endless supply of socks and handkerchiefs. Chocolates never seem to be as appreciated as you would like them to be. Buying clothes can be difficult. Turning up with a pair of trendy bright red star lycra trunks may suit some Dads and others may feel ill at the sight of them. Gifts for him can be challenging.

Have you ever thought of buying Dad a personalized gift? Personalized gifts are special. Due to the nature of these gifts, they may be engraved or printed with your own special messages and even photographs. They fit well with any budget requirement. Key rings and mugs cost as little as a tedious pair of socks. Those fortunate enough to have a higher budget can treat Dad to a bottle of personalized spirits, or a laser engraved crystal decanter. For the Dad who loves the great outdoors, how about an engraved hip flask or brass compass? These gifts are not only practical gifts but everlasting reminders of how treasured he is by his children and grandchildren.

When you choose your gift shop be sure to find an outlet that provides free engraving or printing, allows you to choose the type style font, takes pride in good presentation, and can turn your order around in time.

Wishing your Father a very happy Fathers Day.
