Fathers Day Feasts What Foods Men Really Love

So what to cook for your Dad on Fathers Day, well, this all depends on what he likes and what you know how to cook and finding that common ground is a great place to start. Its also important to work out what time of day youll be cooking for him, in other words breakfast, lunch or dinner? Dont be afraid to go for the English classics, theyre classics for a reason and chances are, if your Dads more than 50 years old, hell be glad you did that over an ethnic dish that hes never heard of.

Breakfast:
The full English Grilled smoked bacon, two eggs, French toast, grilled tomatoes, baked beans, two or three good quality sausages and mushrooms. For extra indulgence add two slices of buttered toast and a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice.
The veggie option - Cheese and tomato toasty If you havent got a toasty maker, dont despair as theyre easy to make under the grill too. The secret to this is deliciously thick bread, lightly toasted and buttered on one side. Use grated cheddar or a medley of grated cheeses and slice the tomato thinly before arranging carefully on one slice of the toast and seasoning grill for a few minutes before placing the other slice on top and returning to the grill for one or two minutes to stick the whole thing together.

Lunch:
Ham, egg and chips This couldnt be easier, all you need is good quality, thick ham from the deli counter or butchers, two eggs and either ready to cook chips or one big baking potato if you want to make your own. Cook the chips in the oven as per instructions (usually around 35 minutes) or peel and chop your potato into chips or cubes. Par boil the potatoes in salted water before draining and adding to half an inch of already hot vegetable oil and fry until golden brown. Arrange three or four slices of the ham on a plate and top with two fried eggs before adding a side of chips and seasoning well.
The veggie option - Baked potato with beans and cheese Baked potatoes are best when theyre allowed a full hour in a very hot oven (220 degrees) and when theyre cooked on metal skewers as these conduct the heat through the middle of the potato. Once the potato is cooked and has a crispy skin, slice open and fill with grated cheese and heated baked beans. Season well and serve with a side salad.

Dinner:
The Sunday roast If youve never cooked one before, go with a chicken as its the easiest to get right. There are lots of recipes for roasts online or rope your Mum into helping! A good roast should be delicious, juicy and full of flavour and should consist of meat, roast potatoes, two or more types of vegetable, Yorkshire puddings and gravy. Whatever else you add is entirely up to you!

The veggie option - Cauliflower cheese Make a basic cheese sauce using a strong cheese, flour, milk and butter while your cauliflower is boiling in salted water (dont overcook or your cauliflower cheese will be soggy and remind your Dad of school dinners!). Add whole cherry tomatoes and lightly fried onions to the mixture for an extra dimension. Put the cauliflower, cherry tomatoes and fried onions into an oven proof dish and pour over the cheese sauce before topping with lots and lots of grated cheese and putting under the grill for 10 minutes. They say the way to a mans heart is through his stomach so get cooking this Fathers Day (20th June) and youll be someones favourite person in no time at all.
