With much voice around, some people worry whether it would be completely dumb or horrible for them who are severely overweight to cosplay a non-overweight anime character?
As a matter of fact, that is nothing to do with your weight and more to do with the fact that this is your first cosplay. Go in normal clothes, and work your way into costumes after going to several cosplays. Start dressing like the regulars after you know you are comfortable in the environment. One fo the most important parts of cosplay is the copslay itself, not the person wearing it. If your body happens to be the ideal then that's great, but it is also awesome to see people's creativity when getting around problmes such as chubbiness or skin color. Cosplay is not always a competition, it is also about having fun and enjoying dressing up as a character, so don't let other people get you down just because of your size. The chance to dress up as your favorite character, whether you look like them or not, and just have fun. If people judge, that is their problems. I once had someone tell me I shouldnt cosplay Hinata because I wore glasses, but I dont care.
Personally, don't let people pressure you into losing weight. Don't let people talk you out of cosplaying. Don't let anyone tell you that you have no right to cosplay. You have the same right as everyone else. If some one tells you you are fat or ugly or whatever they want to say, let them say it. You don't have to talk their crap. Just be like that's nice and take another bite of your pocky box. It is all about the self-esteem and your confidence in yourself if you have enough courage to do that, so you can.
So, dont care too many what comments others make to your cosplay as cosplay itself is just a type of entertainment and fun. There are no rules to confine you to follow except aiming at fun. Just wear favorite
cosplay costume and show it to your friends.
