Taking an organized approach to shopping for and preparing meals can also improve your dieting results. Make a list for food shopping based on healthy low fat, low calorie foods and stick to it. If you have no list and wander down the grocery store aisles some what aimlessly, you will end up with bad choices and not have ingredients you need to create nutritious low calorie meals.

You will also want to research lighter substitutions. You can often use applesauce in place of oil in baking. You may want to opt for salsa instead of cheese dip. There are also many herbs, spices and condiments to improve flavor of foods without adding lots of calories, fat or sugar. Make it a practice to read nutritional labels on foods.

Plan a week of healthy meals and a variety of snacks prior to doing your grocery shopping. If time permits, prepare meals and snacks in advance. It is much easier to make healthy choices when meals and or snacks are readily available. By preparing meals and snacks you will cut down on resorting to fast food meals and junk food snacks. Be creative in meal and snack planning and improve your chances to lose weight.

Anytime you lower you caloric intake, your body takes notice and immediately goes into it's starvation prevent mode. In other words, if you eat less, your body burns less.
