Fashion Tips For Valentine's Day

By:

The 14th of February is an important day for countless men, married and single, all over the world. It's that one day of the year when every man goes out of his way to please his significant other with anything and everything from flowers to jewelry. If you're out to impress on the 14th, though, you'd better go the whole nine yards, including your outfit.

Dress Coded Dating
Since it's Valentine's day, you're most probably planning something special and romantic for the evening. Once you've got the table and menu down pat, you'd best have the dress code of the place memorized too. Nothing ruins a date faster than getting turned out of a restaurant simply because you weren't dressed appropriately.

A two piece suit and tie is your most versatile option when it comes to working within the usual restaurant dress codes. The combination will get you into everything from a mom-and-pop place to a ritzy hotel cafe. Yet even with that kind of fashion flexibility, it's still possible for the suit to be too little or too much for wherever you intend to take your other out for Valentine's.

Does the place require formal attire? Comply and break out your tux for the occasion; it only happens once a year after all. Are you headed someplace like a park or a burger and fries joint that's categorically casual? Don't overdo things and stick to something simple like jeans and a shirt; you wouldn't want to be weighed down by excess layers when all your date wants to do is kick back and relax.

Remember, your goal is to blend in. At the very least, you don't want to stand out from all the other patrons or people in the vicinity. Your date most likely wants an intimate event, not one where all you do throughout the meal is invite stares from everyone else.

Gentlemanly Touches
No matter what dress code end up abiding by, you should hold on to the basic tenets of good fashion that you usually follow. That means maintaining all the gentlemanly touches in your outfit, whether you're wearing a bow tie or a baseball cap to your date.

'Presentable' should be the minimum baseline for your appearance on Valentine's. You never know when you might have to meet your date's parents or roommate and have to earn their impromptu approval. Even if you're just going out to the park, looking like a respectable, presentable guy, no jean rips, see-through shirts and beat-up shoes, in short, goes a long way in making that crucial first impression.

Always have a handkerchief and a jacket on hand, since you never know when your date might have to wipe down or cover up. Hollywood movies keep featuring such a scene because it's a suave strategy that just requires you to bring along an extra piece or two. Should you get the opportunity to make that romantic moment happen, at least you'll be suitably prepared.

Accessorize
The smallest objects, they say, can have the greatest messages, and it holds true for both romance and fashion. Cap off your outfit with little items and accessories that have some meaning or history for both of you to make your date all the more romantic.

Did the two of you exchange rings sometime? Wear yours on your finger or as a pendant on a necklace chain. Did your date give you a watch, necktie or hat last Christmas? Make it a part of your outfit, no matter how unique or offbeat it might be. If it's impact that you want to create for the date, those little touches go a long way in creating that romantic, sentimental atmosphere that's perfect for the occasion.

Valentine's Day preparations vary widely from person to person from both a personal and a fashion perspective. There are, however, some things that you'll want to keep constant, especially if you're after a certain effect to suit the occasion.
