Fashion Conscious Owners Choose Dog Clothes Over Jewels

Flick through the pages of a glossy magazine and you will be confronted with red carpet images of A list celebrities sporting Louis Vuitton, Prada and Chanel. Every week thousands of readers scan these pages looking for inspiration for their own wardrobe, and for their best friend too. We're not talking about a high school buddy though; the latest catwalk fashions are for dog clothes, and the celebrities are falling over themselves to buy the latest outfits.

There was a time when the accessory du jour for the fashion conscious pooch was to reside in an oversized designer bag and swing happily from their owner's shoulder. The paparazzi favourite had to be Paris Hilton and her super cute Chihuahua, but now their lenses are focussed on a far more interesting subject. Designer inspired dog clothes make a pet the perfect red carpet accessory, and it is definitely a publicity winner if you're after column inches.

Taking a pint sized pooch to a red carpet event dressed in an outfit that matches your own not only grabs attention, but it is great for those after party moments when all the other celebs are too wrapped up in themselves to make conversation; at least you have a Toto to talk to. In fact, if each celebrity bought their own canine all dressed up in dog clothes, it could effectively become a celebrity dog club.

On each table would be sat a super thin supermodel with a glass of diet champagne and opposite would be Tallulah Twinkle the Teacup Chihuahua lapping up imported Evian out of a fine china dog bowl. Daggers would be flying over who's puppy has the best attire, and the dogs are quite likely to become the stars themselves. The tabloids would fill with pictures of pampered pooches living the highlife rather than superstars sporting the most expensive diamond necklace.

Is the fashion world can be fickle enough for this to happen, and given that the rising tide of glossy magazines seems to get ever more bizarre, with fashion shoots that are more like performance art, anything is possible. The very fact that designer dog clothes are featuring in fashion magazines is proof that there is more to accessorising that choosing the right diamond earrings.

To make an impact, a celebrity needs to have the same fashion conscious attitude for a pet too, and this is slowly seeping into the everyday lives of Joe Public.
