Faq About Using A Uniden Scanner

By:

Heading to the NASCAR races? The following information will help you keep up on your favorite driving crew's pit action with your Uniden NASCAR scanner.

Question: What is the WX button for on my Uniden scanner?
Answer: WX is the Weather mode on your scanner. You can use this button to check out the weather on the day of the races. The WX button is a pre-programmed list of weather radio frequencies. You can use this button to find out if there are storms approaching your city and to help you plan for weather and driving conditions on your trip out to the races. These weather frequencies will also keep you informed year round of any weather or natural disaster related happenings that are occurring in the US, including electrical storms, hurricanes, blizzards, hail storms, floods, fires, and even oil spills. Although many older Uniden scanners don't have this button, you can program in national weather service channels such as the national NOAA (the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), the US Coast Guard, and your local NOAA weather information station. To use the WX button, press it down and it will show you the preprogrammed weather stations (most scanners come with between five and 15 preprogrammed weather stations). If the station you first select isn't coming in well, just push WX again and it will show you the list of stations again. When you want to exit the WX (Weather) mode, just another button and it will take you out of the weather mode.

Question: Someone spilled a drink on my scanner and it's dirty (although thankfully it still works). How do I clean my Uniden NASCAR scanner?
Answer: First, you need to turn it off and disconnect the power source (unplug it, take out the battery, etc.). Next, get a clean washcloth and a bottle of kitchen dish soap (not the kind you use in the dishwasher, since dishwasher detergent is more acidic than hand wash detergent). Get the washcloth wet and add a few drops of dish soap and rub it around the washcloth. Squeeze most of the water out of the washcloth. Then clean the Uniden scanner with the washcloth, being careful not to use very much water or let water drip into the button keypad and other edges. Be very gentle with the LCD window; don't scratch or rub it harshly, or it will damage the screen. Finally, dry off the scanner completely. Don't let your Uniden Nascar Scanner sit around damp, or it can ruin the electrical components.
