Are you tired of doing sit ups and crunches and want a new exercise? Did those sit ups or crunches even ever produce any results? Probably not and I will tell you why. Because they do not burn many calories.

Don not get me wrong. Those exercises are fine for building muscle. The problem is that it will still be hidden under a curtain of fat. What you need are some exercises that are really going to annihilate the fat around your midsection.

By using a piece of equipment called a kettlebell you can burn up to 20 calories a minute and lose as much as 1% of body fat a week. A KB is a cannonball shaped device with a handle and, because of its shape, it can be swung which introduces a cardiovascular element that is typically missing from weight lifting.

Now, in the 1990s a team of Japanese researchers discovered that you can actually work out less and lose more weight if you combine brief periods of physical exertion with brief periods of rest. By combining this format with KBs it is a deadly prescription for fat.

Weight lifting with barbells and dumbbells is for building maximum strength. However, KB lifting is for building strength and endurance. There are literally hundreds of not thousands of exercise variations you can perform with KBs and they will all leave you winded in short order. Fairly soon you will be in the best shape of your life.

Here is a sample KB abdominal workout circuit. We are going to increase the fat burning effect even more by using the high intensity interval training format. This is simply moving from one exercise to another with only a little rest in between.

Start off by warming up with some halos, simply rotate the KB around your head in each direction. This may not look like it has anything to do with your abs but it will really help to work the obliques. Next move to the figure 8, which is passing the KB from one hand to another between your legs. Each time you do it stand up and lift the KB to your chest. You will really start to feel it in your abs now. Let us move on to swinging the KB between your legs now, thrusting out with your hips. Do this as many times as possible. Lastly, move to renegade rows and you will really feel it in your abs.

How was that? Tired? Well now it is time to start the circuit again!

By doing these you will work your entire body including the muscles of your core and your abs as well as burning calories so that you can actually see your abs.
