Family Tents From Outwell

We at Outdoor World Direct sell all types of tents for family camping holidays. Once, large tents were cumbersome things with inflexible poles and heavy canvas fabric. However, modern design technology has transformed this. Even the largest tent can be fitted into the average boot; some family units are light enough to take backpacking.

Outwell tents are renowned for their innovative designs and they are easy to erect. Features include pre-installed inner tents, walk-in wardrobes for privacy, a sealed groundsheet system and vented windows. Some Outwell tents are made from polycotton, rather than manmade fabric. This gives them extra resilience and strength, as well as being environmentally more friendly.

Family tents are available as a pod or tunnel construction. Both types are based on the flexible-pole, dome system, rather than the traditional rigid frame or ridge-tent design.
Pod tents are among the largest tents on the market. They have a central living area with one or more sleeping areas, called pods, positioned around it, like the arms of a starfish. Outwell tents employing the pod design include the Hartwell range. These offer a large, spacious living area and plenty of head room, and the sealed, bath-tub style groundsheet ensures mud and creepy-crawlies stay outside. Unlike many pods, the bedrooms dont demand you crouch down to half-height to get into them.

Most people who choose pod tents do so because of the bedroom arrangement, which allows plenty of air-space and privacy. The downside of pod tents of whatever make, not just Outwell is that the larger ones have a large footprint, making them too big for some campsites. They also have a lot more fabric than the equivalent sized tunnel tent, making them heavier and more complicated to erect. One plus point is that some have removable pods, so you can downscale the tent accordingly.

Tunnel tents are simpler to erect than pods, and are among the most common family tents seen today. Outwell tunnel tents include the Michigan, Carolina, Montana, Arkansas, Florida and Ohio ranges. Rather than crossing the poles over, they are arranged in a series of tensioned hoops in a line. The bedrooms are placed at one or both ends, with multiple rooms arranged vis--vis. However, the design of tunnel tents means they can become airborne while being erected. Also, once they are up, their streamlined structure places them under a great deal of stress in heavy winds.
Outwell have combated this with a number of design innovations, such as the Power Stability System, and extra-strength steel poles. Another solution has been to create a range of hybrid Outwell tents, combining elements of both pod and tunnel designs. We at Outdoor World Direct stock a large range of these. The Avantegarde Maryland, for example, incorporates a twin-tunnel design placed at 90 degrees to each other, while the Premium Dakota utilises a unique Space Frame system, to create a compact tent with maximum living space.

Whichever of the family-sized Outwell Tents you buy, you will discover extra little touches no-one else has thought of. These include hanging rails for wet washing, roll-up curtains for privacy, detachable childrens playrooms and optional add-on bedrooms for guests.
