Facts you should know before getting a new dog to your house

By: jeffrey eugenio

There are many facts to consider before you get a new pet. The differences in nature and character among dog breeds can be as varied as the dissimilarities in people. Knowing the perfect match between the dog type and the owner or family is the key to success in getting a dog into your house.

Dogs come in different varieties that are naturally introduced to the dog world and those created purposely by cross-breeding or breeding two dissimilar dogs, for example Labradoodle (cross breed of Labrador Retriever and a Poodle).

You should ask yourself what dog type you can take care. Having a huge yard can provide plenty of room for a huge dog type to run and play around.

Do you want a pet that is strong, yet cuddly and good with your children? Are you considering of getting a guard dog for your home? Do you want to have a show dog to enter competitions?

Or do you just want to have a loyal companion, tiny enough to be calm in your home and calm enough to sit with you and accompanying you? These are several considerations to think about as you look for the perfect type of pet.

Are you living alone in your home? If you are the type of person who works long hours then choose a type of dog that can cope with a lot of time alone at home – perhaps dogs that like dog toys and also entertains himself.

If you live with little children a medium to large-size dog is better since it is generally gentle by nature and patient with children. For them, a pet is like a toy – they do not understand that pets are living; breathing being that can get hurt by their actions.

There are breeds that are not patient with the antics of small children, but would be great with grown-up kids. A good dog for older people is a breed that needs to be undemanding.

Dogs can also be divided into two important categories - those that shed a lot and also those that don't. Shedding is a big complaint of people who have dogs. Dog hair clings to furniture, clothing as well as people who sit anywhere in the house. Although short haired dogs may appear easier to groom but they can shed, too. Classification of shedding can be grouped or divided into barely sheds, seasonal only shedding or constant shedding.

Another significant thing to consider is the size of the dog. Smaller dogs weigh less than 10 pounds, medium dogs weigh 11-25 pounds, large dogs weigh 26-50 pounds and extra large dogs weight 51-80 pounds. There are also extremely huge dogs that can reach up to 100-180 pounds. Now you see why size is also a big factor in choosing the best dog for you.

Can your furniture stand that much weight of dog? When picking a dog always remember to make your choice based on the size the dog will grow to as an adult and not on the look of the puppy.

Big dogs are also big eaters. If you bring home a large dog like a Mastiff, you may need a second work just to pay for the health care.

Health care is another important consideration. There are dogs that need extra grooming and care than other breeds. Dogs like poodles or show dogs may spend a little more time in grooming centers than you do. There are also dogs that need weekly (or even daily) grooming to keep their coats from tangles and to maintain good physical health. Don’t forget to research about the breed that you desire. Check the dog breed’s temperament, size, and also grooming requirements before you make any decision. Researching those important information will surely save you a lot of time and avoid any problem in taking care of the dog. It's only fair to the dog you want that you be ready for the dog’s basic needs, aside from providing them love and attention that only you and your family can give.
