Kayaking is an excellent boating experience in which a kayak, a small boat, powered by a man to navigate through the water. The kayak was first discovered by Inuit and Aleut, the hunters in North America, who had designed kayaks not only for hunting but also engineered to facilitate women. In general, a kayak features a wrapped deck and a cockpit which is wrapped as well with a special paddle to push the boat forward. Traditional kayaks were available in huge varieties offering different look and style. Kayaking is an adventurous event that is aged beyond 4000 years.

In general, a kayak can accommodate 1 or 2 at a time but few kayaks accommodate 3 people at the maximum with a length of nearly 17 feet and 22 inches width with 7 inches depth. One person would be sitting in the cockpit facing front and the spray skirt will prevent water from entering the craft. In the contemporary models, the kayak would bearing a supplementary stratum of clothing which at present, is used by those who practice kayaking. The initial models of kayaks were made of wood and animal hide. But the present kayaks are made of fiber glass and Kevlar.

For a few, Kayaking is a thrilling sport event, while for others it is just an activity for recreation. There are various styles of kayaking among which two are very popular. One is the Sea kayaking and the other is the White water kayaking. White water kayaking is an activity where the kayaking experts would participate in a competition to win the championship exposing their capacity and efficiency. Few others challenge the fast moving rivers with their kayak to move through specific segments of a water streams or rivers which would involve a day or 2 to complete.

Kayaking in gushing river streams is called Creeking. Creeking professionals are capable of kayaking in waterfalls and ledges too. Slalom is yet another type of kayaking where experts try their level best to touch the river bed in a certain river segment. It not only requires a swift movement but it also calls for the expertise to move around gates that are set at strategic point in the river. In common, Slalom races would involve a minimum of twenty gates on a single course which requires intense concentration to navigate properly. Play boating, yet another method where the creativity, grace and the talent place a major role unlike others that focus on the speed.

In Play boating style, the contestants would linger in one corner of the river and will have to move from one spot to another against the direction and force of the river. Kayaking is more into vogue in location that are blessed with gushing rivers. It is a fact that kayaking in a precarious sport event that have taken the lives of a few racers in most difficult rivers.
