Skunk odor is literally very disgusting. And when our beloved pets are sprayed by them, we immediately focus in removing that unpleasant skunk smellall over our pets. However, knowing some skunk facts can greatly help us in eliminating that unpleasant skunk odor or better yet prevent it from happening.

Skunks can be found anywhere where they can easily access foods such as grasses, woods and sometimes at our own backyards. They are not picky eaters; they tend to eat anything from plants, berries, stray birds, eggs, bugs and sometimes even trash. They even eat pests which in some cases can be beneficial to us.

Skunks are known to use their chemical spray whenever they feel threatened or they have to defend themselves from predators. Skunks only resort in using their chemical spray as their last option when threatened. They try to scare predators off by spitting and scratching the ground to defend themselves, which unfortunately is not very effective for bigger animals, such as dogs. And when it fails, thats the time they use their sprays, which is really very effective to scare anyone, even humans.

The chemical spray that comes out of skunks anal glands contains sulfur acid which causes that very disgusting skunk smell. For them to be able to properly spray that chemicals out of their body, they have to raise their tails and turn. These sprays are very powerful that once our pet dogs have been sprayed, they want to get rid it immediately because it irritates them as well.
Skunks dont have many predators because a lot of animals are aware of skunks capability when it comes their defense. But there are still a few predators that will go out of their way against skunks, which includes dogs. Since dogs are known to be our guardian and sometimes protector, they tend to go against skunks when they are around our property, thats why they are the usual skunk victims.

And when our pet dog has been sprayed by skunks, we will do everything we could to remove the skunk smell out of our beloved pet.
