Facelift Surgery: Check Out The Various Types Of The Surgery

By:

A face lift surgery, also known as rhytidectomy, is a procedure done to restore youthfulness to the face by removing and smoothing out excess facial fat, tightening and repositioning muscles and tissues and removing and tightening excess skin on the face, jowls, and neck.

A successful surgery will take of eight to ten years of age by reducing wrinkles and sagging skin. There are many different types of lifting surgeries, some less evasive than others and each produce different results and have differing price tags.

Standard Facelift
During this surgery, a plastic surgeon will make an incision that starts above the hair line allowing the surgeon to separate the skin from the tissue underneath. The surgeon will remove excess fat and skin and tighten the facial muscles as well.

The tissue is redistributed to smooth out the contour of the face and then the skin is repositioned and sutured back into place. Because this surgery is rather invasive, recovery lasts several weeks, but a patient may return to work and daily activity after ten days. Patients are likely to experience severe bruising and swelling, however all scars should be hidden behind the hairline.

Lower Facelift
A patient that desires to tighten only the bottom third of their face might be more suited for a lower facelift surgery. During this procedure, an incision is made starting in front of the ear and extending down and around the back of the ear.

To avoid scarring many surgeons now perform the entire procedure endoscopically. This means they can remove all the fat, tissue, and skin, as well as tighten all the muscles just by using small instruments and a tiny camera inserted under the skin. Endoscopic procedures require incisions on 3/8ths of inch long which is much less invasive and requires less recovery time.

Mid Facelift
This procedure targets the area around the eyes, nose, and corners of the mouth. It is usually performed endoscopically and is similar to the standard and lower facelifts. Recovery time is about one week and patients often experience less swelling and bruising.

Mini Facelift
Also known as the weekend facelift, this method targets only specific areas and is preformed endoscopically. The procedure is very quick as is the recovery time. This is a good option for patients that do not require tightening of the entire face. Another reason why this is an attractive procedure to many is it cost significantly less than a standard surgery.
