Eyelid Plastic Surgery Often Improves A Man's Appearance

None of us are exempt from the effects of time and aging. As years go by, gravity and natural physical processes contribute to those unpleasant, sagging bags under the eyes, and that loose skin which tells the world we are becoming older and less vital. Fortunately, there are two sides to this battle with time, and today effective surgical methods can combat those wrinkles and folds. Both women and many men are choosing eyelid plastic surgery to improve their appearance.

The procedure many are choosing is called blepharoplasty. Its aim is to rid the eye region, and more specifically the eyelids, of the excess skin, fat, and muscle tissue which accompanies that sleepy, droopy-eyed look. A lifelong practice of good eye and skin-care is often not enough to eliminate the aging factor, and in spite of spending time, effort and money the eyes may still appear to be puffy, leathery and wrinkled.

Most of us realize that first impressions are important. Part of the human condition includes making decisions about others based on outward appearance, however unfair that may ultimately prove to be. Regardless, a healthier and more youthful facial look can be advantageous in many aspects of life, including business. Two basic types of alterations can help achieve this look, including the lower blepharoplasty, or under-eye bag removal, and the upper blepharoplasty, or double-lid procedure.

Improving the overall eye area for men requires a slightly different medical approach, because males often have more pronounced facial muscles and thicker skin. The eyebrows and lids differ in contour, shape and even level. Before approving a specific kind of alteration, the patient must be thoroughly evaluated according to his specific needs. The overall goal is to produce a natural-looking change that will last a relatively long time.

Once the potential medical work has been assessed and approved, the actual blepharoplasty is often a relatively quick procedure, and may even be performed under local anesthesia. After excess fat, skin and muscle tissue has been cleared away, the reattachment process stretches the remaining skin, leaving it less wrinkled and tighter in appearance. Scars are kept to a minimum, and incisions are made in a way that will minimize detection.

Ideal candidates for blepharoplasty will thoroughly understand the potential risks, which may include post-surgical problems closing the eyes, tear production, unwanted scars, or even infection. They should be healthy both mentally and physically. Men with certain conditions such as uncontrolled high blood pressure, chronic dry eyes, certain thyroid or heart problems, diabetes or glaucoma should undergo a complete medical evaluation, and may decide that blepharoplasty is not the best solution.

The actual overall fee is another important consideration. Standard medical insurance may not cover all elective costs. While not excessive when compared to many other surgeries, the complete price usually includes pre-surgical medical tests, the actual amount paid to the surgeon, any anesthesia, time spent in the hospital and any medications required afterward.

The overall end result, however, is often an awakened, refreshed look, giving an impression of alertness and capability. These are big advantages for many men in the working and social world. No surgical procedure can totally counteract all the natural processes of aging, of course, and should not be approached with that expectation. Eyelid plastic surgery for men, however, may give a more healthy and vital appearance, and can definitely be an advantage both personally and professionally.
