Eye Health Tips For The Computer

By:

In this day and age people are spending more and more time in front of their computers. Many people have jobs that require them to focus on a screen for eight hours a day before coming home to spend more hours online checking email and paying bills. With this in mind it is more important than ever to be aware of the eye care required to maintain healthy vision during all of these hours in front of a computer screen.

There is not just one specific factor that causes eyesight to degrade when in front of a computer screen for an extended period of time, knowing this it is crucial that you follow several different practices to help maintain proper eye care. Remember that when you are on a computer you are staring at something that doesn't change in distance. Your eyes will get stressed over time when having to focus on the same position for too long. It is important to give your eyes a rest by looking at something considerably farther away from you every half hour.

Also remember to keep your eyes moisturized, when we stare at something for too long it is possible for eyes to dry out. We have all seen what happens to something that requires moisture when it dries out. This is not something we want to happen to our eyes. Luckily our body has a built in system that keeps our eyes moisturized; when we blink we provide vital moisture to our eyes keeping them focused and strong. When staring at a computer screen our eyes tend to dry out faster but our blinking speed does not increase. This causes moisture to be lost faster than we replace it. It is important to take breaks and blink rapidly for a short period of time in order to moisturize your eyes.

It is also important to remember that your eyes are just another part of your body. Eye care goes right along with care for every part of you. Take breaks when you can, stretch your legs and increase blood flow and circulation by going for a short walk. It doesn't have to be much; if you are at an office, for instance, it can just be a short walk to the water cooler for a refill. Doing this intermittently throughout the day will help your posture and attitude as well as help you keep a clear head and clear vision.
