Eye Drops Are A Great Way To Care For Your Eyes

By:

The eyes are one of the most important bodily components. Without clear vision, we are not able to enjoy gorgeous scenery such as mountains, lakes, sunsets and rainbows, we are not able to truly enjoy watching our children take their first steps, we miss out on our favourite films and feasting our eyes on our favourite designers' new collections becomes blurry and confusing. Without clear eyesight, we cannot ride our bikes or drive, or partake in other sports. In short, life becomes pretty dull when we allow our eyesight to deteriorate.

Fortunately, technology and scientists have brought us eye drops. These handy and affordable drops can be used in a number of ways involving the eyes, from the minimal to the more serious. People most commonly use eye drops to soothe red, itchy and watery eyes that have been affected by seasonal allergies, dust and the like.

More and more frequently, people have been experiencing dry eye syndrome, usually from being exposed to dry air in small spaces. Computer use contributes to this as well, because people blink less and don't get their eye fluids moving around as much while online. Thankfully, there is a large amount of dry eye drops on the market, made of varying ingredients. Another major use is to re-wet contacts so that they do not stick to contact users' eyes.

Eye drops are also applied after people have surgeries. If someone has cataract surgery, the doctor will administer eye drops beforehand in order to prevent infection, make the pupil larger and numb the eye. After such a surgery, the doctor might also prescribe eye drops to help the eye heal properly. After a corneal transplant surgery, drops will be applied for the same reason. Sometimes, people develop a corneal infection, known as keratitis, which is cause by a virus or bacteria and usually occurs among contact lens wearers. Antibacterial eye drops or steroid eye drop treatment might be what is needed to alleviate symptoms.

Some parents may wonder if it's okay for children to use eye drops and the answer is yes. Children also suffer from allergies, so that is one reason for them to use drops, those who acquire lazy eye, which occurs when one eye becomes dominant and children may have to squint to see clearly. In any case, it's always practical to check with a doctor if you have any concerns.

For anyone using eye lubricants, it's important to keep the bottle clean. Do not touch the eye directly with the nozzle. Avoid getting make up on it. Do not share bottles with people who may have an eye allergy. If the bottle becomes contaminated, the next person to use it might develop conjunctivitis, or more commonly known as pink eye and that's no fun!

Our eyes are important to us. Whether you suffer from allergies, dry eye or want to prevent cracking of your contact lenses, it's great that we have eye drops. They come in very handy and are easily portable - what better way to take care of our eyes.
