Extreme Fat Loss Diet-motivated By Walking

By:

Over the past few years I have tried all sorts of things to try to lose weight...diet pills, special diets, exercising, fasting and replacing meals with protein shakes. I would experience great success for a few weeks and then I'd find myself falling back into old habits.

Then I got hit with a wakeup call. My father had passed away at age 61 from a heart attack, my mother passed away from cancer at 63, and then my brother died from a heart attack at age 50. Being in my 40's, I knew that I needed to make a permanent lifestyle change. If I want a chance of outliving my family members, then I needed to get serious about losing weight.

The words of my doctor began echoing in my mind. "Eat less and exercise more. Eat less and exercise more." Exercise! Where do I even begin! Weighing nearly 400 pounds, it's not like I could take a three mile walk or use exercise equipment. After all, I weigh more than the capacity for most equipment pieces.

But I made a commitment to try walking. A friend of mine who is also a health coach, told me to walk one mile no matter how long it took. He said that as long as I could breath, I was physically well enough to walk a mile. One night I drove to a flat area of our town and measured one mile. The following morning I put on my sneakers, which I hadn't worn in years and began walking. Walking that mile was super challenging. I was so badly out of shape that I had to stop nine times to catch my breath or because my knees and ankles were hurting. It took me about 45 minutes to complete the walk and I was exhausted for the rest of the day.

Two days later, I re-walked the same route and was pleasantly surprised that I only needed to take six stops and that I completed the walk in 42 minutes. Motivated by this little success, I felt ready to tackle dieting. Since I've tried most any diet that you can think of...Atkins, grapefruit, Nutrisystem, Mediterranean, etc., I decided to ditch dieting! Instead, I studied the "Dietary Guidelines for Americans" and began using common sense. Instead of fast food, I began eating more fruits, vegetables and grains.

I also incorporated a free day where I could enjoy whatever I wanted and not feel guilty about it. Because I wasn't starving myself and knew I had free days to look forward to, my metabolism has been wonderful! Any other time I've tried to lose weight, I felt so sluggish and felt as though the pounds were barely coming off.

Three months into my routine, I have notice some great changes! I'm now able to walk three miles in a little over an hour without any breaks. I've lost over 50 pounds and feel the best that I've felt in a long time! Life is good!
