Extra Equipment When You Go Off Road

By:

Consider taking the following equipment with you, on your off Road Adventures.

I would say that the C.B. Radio and a good Sat Nav is a must as well as a good jack.

The High-Lift Jack can be used for pushing, clamping, pulling and winching. Always carry a block of wood or something that you can set your jack on to prevent sinking into the ground you are on.

You cannot use them as they stand on Land Rover Discovery's, Range Rovers or Freelanders as there are no jacking points for a Hi-lift Jack. You would have to change the bumpers or bulbar to steel and have jack points put on them.

You can get adaptors for Land Rovers. Hi-Lift Jack can be a very dangerous Tool if not used properly Think safety at all times.

For the Land Rover Discovery, Range Rover and Frelander an Air Bag may be more practical. Although I have not used an air bag I am considering puchasing one as I can see great benefits having one Off Road.

You place the air bag where you need to lift the vehicle and connect the hose to you exhaust tail pipe.

C.B. Radio. (Illegal in Morocco if they find it they will confiscate it; you get it back when you leave according to the grapevine). If anyone has a problem, then this is a must as it will keep you in contact and lets you know what is going on.

The C.B. I have a Midland Alan 42 Multi B.B. Radio and find that it is a good radio. It can be connected to your Land Rover 12v power supply and to an external aerial or it can be hand held if you are outside your Land Rover. You can use 4 or 8 AA rechargeble or ordinary AA Batteries .

Sat Nav. Your normal Sat Navigation (Land Rover etc) doesn't work in Morocco. Tom Tom, now have map covering Morocco. There are downloads on the internet of routes and tracks for some Garmin GPS from people who have been on off road adventures before. These routes and track are very good.

You wil find a link to this web page in my eBook Off Road Adventures For The Land Rover Enthusiast.

Mobile Phone. Carrying a mobile phone is now an essential part of your equipment when Off Road. BUT and it is a big BUT Do Not Totally rely on your mobile phone for getting you out of any difficult situation you may find yourself in. In mountainous areas, heavily wooded areas or just being well off the beaten track you may find that you do not have a signal.

A satellite phone would be more beneficial in remote ares like the Desert. But these are expensive.

As always make sure you have an emergency supply of the basics, food, water, warm clothing and a method of lighting a fire or stove.
