Exterior Caulking Can Prevent Water Damage

By:

Being a home owner, we all want to make our home look as nice as we can. Most all of us work as much as we can for our family and do not have too much time to do routine maintenance that needs to be taken care of on a regular basis. That is why normally we end up hiring a house painter to come to our home to repaint once every 5 or 6 years or so. Sometimes that is not enough to prevent damage from being done in between the time the painter comes around to have the exterior of the home spruced up.

There are some things that need to be looked at each year on a home to keep a large bill from catching you when you least expect it. If you notice any type of knot in the facial boards of your home that are broken out or just a small crack in one can allow water to enter your home. This is something that does not need to go without fixing now, because when it does rain, the water and moisture is only doing more damage to areas inside.

The exterior windows are an area that when a small crack is present, it is not only doing damage to the window. It will allow water to penetrate inside a wall and do some real water damage to the insulation, drywall and studs inside the wall. When this goes with out notice for a period of time, it can and will do damage to the foundation of your home. This is what you do not want to damage, after all, this is what your home is resting on. So, believe it or not, just a little bit of caulking can prevent damage to all of these areas.

Any place that has developed a crack in between your wood work of a home should be caulked and checked on a few weeks later to make sure that the crack has not reappeared. If enough moisture has gotten inside any area that has a crack, it will possibly break loose again. To avoid this from happening, when you notice that crack where ever it may be, wait until it has not been raining or damp for several days to insure the moisture has gone. Just doing these few things can prevent the wood on your home from deteriorating.
