Even knowing the risks of poor eating habits, most Americans continue to devour fried foods, sugary treats and foods laden with a high fat content. Obesity is on the rise and it doesn't seem to faze many individuals. If our eating habits are any indication of future potential illnesses we are in big trouble. Just a few simple additions to your daily diet can make a dramatic difference. People don't seem to want to eliminate these foods from their diets. However, by added a few more healthy food can make a difference over the long term.

By reducing the amount of red meat in ones diet and replacing it with fish three or four times a week it can be the first step to a healthier you. Fish provides us with omega oils which are good for our circulatory and heart. Specific fish like salmon contains a higher amount of these oils. Another positive is to replace sweetened drinks with water. It will reduce the amount of empty calories that are consumed on a daily basis. Drinking more water, at least eight cups a day, will help with digestion and keep you hydrated.

Incorporating more whole grains into your diet will help you have healthy colon. When one doesn't eat enough fiber food remains in the colon area and become toxic. They are many foods that will help you consume more fiber. Wheat, rye, rice and grain cereals all contain a high fiber amount and get your digestive system on the right track of eliminating wastes faster. Another way is to eat legumes and nuts.

Fruits - Many of the nutrients found in fruits are imperative to the body and perhaps this is why the food pyramid has just been changed from consuming 5-6 fruits per day to 8-10. So when you are hungry and have a hankering for something sweet choose for the vitamins and fiber from your favorite fruits and watch the pounds fall right off. Vegetables - Again another source of fiber veggies are some of the best items to eat. If you cook them up just do so lightly as you don't want to take all the nutrients out by overcooking them. The fresher the better and these veggies will not only help to fill you up they will also aid in digestion and help you to attain that healthier figure you are so in search of.

Eating healthy can help to improve your health and your life. Adding just these five items or more of them into your diet can have a positive impact on your overall health and can help to extend your life.
