Exploring Some Home Bar Refrigeration Options

By:

A home bar is an area within the home that will prove to be the focal point of any socializing. This is due to the fact that it is a gathering place for people to have an alcoholic and a non-alcoholic drink. Subsequently people will congregate at this focal point and will naturally engage in conversation, the telling of jokes and the sharing of life experiences and stories.

When people are enjoying their surroundings and the company within, they generally like their drinks to be cool and refreshing. So, when you are considering investing in a home bar, you need to give thought to some type of refrigeration that will keep drinks cold by providing ice cubes or a cold place to store the beverages themselves. Your selections might include a basic standard refrigerator, a wine refrigerator cooler, ice cubes or a combination of these.

First thing to think about is that basic refrigeration is a necessity to produce ice to cool down those beverages. The ice can be produced by a freezer compartment of a refrigerator in the kitchen and brought to the bar via an insulated cooler to be stored there. The bartender could then reach into the cooler in the bar to place ice cubes in the guest's drinks.

Another way of manufacturing and maintaining the ice cubes in the bar area would be the installation of an icemaker. This may not be as cumbersome as it sounds to have this type of machine near the home bar. This is because small and portable icemakers can be purchased that can be simply placed underneath the counter. It is also important to note that with these portable and small icemakers that a drainage system is not required.

Another way to keep the beverages cold, especially the beers that are served from the home bar, would be to have a small portable refrigerator. Specifically, a small electrical unit can be purchased and tucked nicely underneath the home bar. This modern appliance would help to keep the beers and nonalcoholic drinks cool so that they can be enjoyed by the guests that are attending the party.

Another refrigeration unit that can be purchased is a wine refrigerator. This type of appliance is specifically designed and made with the cooling of wine in mind.

The way a wine refrigerator works is that the bottles are placed on their side in the refrigerator-cooler as the shelves are designed specifically for this purpose. There are different sizes of wine refrigerators to accommodate the number of bottles that you would need chilled at any given time. The nice thing about a wine refrigerator is that there is no guessing at the temperature at which to store the wine properly. The refrigerator determines that for you and maintains the correct temperature so the wine is always at its best.

Additionally, if an outdoor home bar is used, an appropriate way to keep the beverages cool would be to use a cooler. This cooler could be a large ice chest which would accommodate ice cubes or a small stainless steel cooler could be used to chill a bottle of wine or various bottles of beer. This type of stainless steel cooler, in the shape of a bucket, is a nice touch and added dimension to an outdoor party. Typically, ice can be purchased from any convenience store or grocery store and purchased in 10 or 20 pound bags.
