Exploring Busan: Korea's Second Seoul

Exploring Busan: Korea's Second Seoul

By:

Whenever you hear about South Korea, you mostly hear about what's happening in Seoul. As the nation's capital, it gets the most attention, and somewhat overshadows South Korea's other fantastic city, Busan. If you ever plan to travel to South Korea, make sure you head to Busan, and check out these three things:

1) Haeundae Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Korea. Just don't go there to enjoy it during the summer time, though, because tens of thousands of people will also want to see how beautiful it is. If you can check it out during the fall time, do so then, and you'll see a breathtaking shoreline on soft sands. This is also where they host the Busan International Film Festival, which is the biggest of its kind in Asia.

2) The Jagalchi Fish Market is unlike any fish market you'll find in Seoul. It's not pristine or beautiful the way Haeundae beach is beautiful, but that doesn't make it any less amazing. It's a long stretch of stalls run by Ajummas (Old Korean Women) with all of the freshest catches of the day. You'll see crabs crawling out of their sandboxes and octopuses splashing their way out of their tubs.

3) The Shinsegae department store in Busan is the largest department store in the world according to the Guinness Book of World Records. It has a huge spa, as well as an ice rink, and massive movie complex as well, with theatres in which chefs are serving food for you as well! It's an overwhelming shopping experience, and far, far too big to get through all of in just one day.

Of course, there are many more things to see in Busan, including other markets and some of the most beautiful temples Korea has to offer. This much is certain: no trip to Korea would be complete without a visit to Busan.
