The emergence of Bluetooth in the technological industry has opened a lot more opportunities for improvement in the devices we hold today. Fortunately, RIM includes this innovation among their BlackBerry PlayBook features. It certainly adds more to the BlackBerry experience.

The most popular use for the BlackBerry PlayBook Bluetooth feature is its ability to connect the PlayBook with BlackBerry smartphones. While connected, you can use the PlayBook to manipulate information like messages, chat, mail and other applications as if they were BlackBerry PlayBook apps themselves. Essentially, through Bluetooth, you can merge the two devices into a single unit device with better functionality. Not to mention, the whole process is fully secure and ensures that the data from one device is not duplicated on the other.

The BlackBerry PlayBook has three Bluetooth profiles accessible to the PlayBook user. These profiles are used to communicate with a Bluetooth enabled device. However, the communication between the two may only be successful if your PlayBook supports the profile of the device to which you wish to connect it. BlackBerry PlayBook has a Dial-up Networking (DUN) Bluetooth profile that would grant access to the Internet and other dial-up services with the use of Bluetooth. On the other hand, the Serial Port Profile (SPP) is what the BlackBerry Bridge uses to connect to your BlackBerry Smartphone. This profile acts as a simple wireless replacement for serial cables and takes care of serial communications and familiar control indicators. The SPP is the basis for the DUN profile, which is utilized by both the PlayBook and the BlackBerry smartphones, as well as the HSP, FAX and AVRCP profiles, which are currently available in BlackBerry smartphones but not in the PlayBook.
