The rich and diverse wildlife in India is preserved in 13 Bio reserves across the country. India is home to a number of rare and endangered animal species. According to one study, India is the home to about 60-70% of the world's biodiversity. Many ecoregions, like the shola forests, exhibit extremely high rates of endemism. Overall, 33% of Indian plant species are endemic. Between these extremes lie the sal-dominated moist deciduous forest of eastern India, teak-dominated dry deciduous forest of central and southern India and the babul-dominated thorn forest of the central Deccan and western Ganga plain. There are more than 441 Wildlife Sanctuaries in India. Among these wildlife sanctuaries, 28 Tiger Reserves are governed by Project Tiger and are of special significance for the conservation of the tiger.

India provides a paradise for the nature lovers. These forest areas conserve the endangered species like the Leopard, Lion, Asiatic Elephant, the Bengal tiger and Siberian Crane. Elephant, Deer, Panther, Wild buffalo, Wild ass, one horned Rhinoceros, Porcupine and Snow leopards etc are some of the animals you can see in The Himalayan region.


One of the very famous national park in India is- the Madhav National Park originally Known as the Shivpuri National Park. This national park is another rich habitat for the wildlife. Another famous national park of India is-The Corbett National Park, which is one of the most popular National Parks in India for the wildlife enthusiast as well as the holiday makers is changing the way wildlife tourism. These National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries are promoters of wildlife tourism for India.

Indian wildlife has its share of native birds along with the migratory birds in wildlife of India. Several hundred species of Birds can be spotted across India. The Himalayan region is well known for being one of the natural habitats of the Pheasant, griffon vulture and ravens. The Keoladeo Ghana National Park popularly known as the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is one of the very famous Bird Sanctuaries in India .Tourists from far and wide are attracted to visit these Bird Sanctuaries in India. At the Dudhwa wildlife reserve migratory birds like Egrets, herons, storks and cormorants share space with the ducks, gees and teals. The region of Andaman Island is home for the rare species of birds like the Narcondum hornbill, Nicobar Pigeon and the Megapode.
