Explore A Tianjin Cultural Icon At Captivating Huangya Guan Great Wall

Affectionately dubbed the miniature version of Chinas Great Wall the Huangya Guan Great Wall is an ancient architectural marvel in its own right. Originally constructed during the Northern Qi Dynasty which ruled over the region from 550 557 BC the wall was refurbished once during the Ming Dynasty while watch towers and additional defensive mechanisms were supplemented in subsequent years. Tucked away within the northern reaches of Ji County the Huangya Guan Great Wall also enjoys the honour of being the most visited attraction in Tianjin. Positioned at a cloud gracing height of 700m above sea level the wall built on a sharp mountain ridge has become an unlikely resort holiday venue and a nature lovers lookout point during the summer months.
With a tumultuous history dating back nearly 1400 years the 42km stretch dubbed the Huangya Guan Great Wall contains an impressive 66 watch towers and other fortified defence facilities. These include barracks, frontier cities, emplacements, drain holes and other additional military facilities that are placed neatly along the contours of the great wall.
With its name denoting Yellow Cliff Pass in Chinese the wall earned its curious name from the yellow hued rocks and mountains in the vicinity. The eastern reaches of the wall contain crags and several cliffs. The Huangya Guan Great Wall is considered the miniature of the Great Wall of China because it is the single venue in which such diverse architectural elements are contained within one stretch.
The Phoenix Tower is the largest of all the watch towers built along the wall while Bagua Castle which is also known as Eight Trigrams Castle is another point of interest at the locale. Other key attractions include stele woodlands and The Hall of Famous Couplets while ancient Beiji Temple is the venues chief religious highlight. A museum facility along the Great Wall is also found within the Huangya Guan stretch which houses the newly built Great Wall Museum.
Travellers in search of a luxury serviced residence in Tianjin will be hard-pressed to find a finer alternative to the Somerset Olympic Tower Tianjin.
