Explanation Of How Concrete Mixing Is Done And The Tools That Are Needed

Short Introduction Of What Cement Mixers Do
This post will shortly explain what concrete - that which a cement mixer mixes - is, how concrete can be mixed and some various types of cement mixers that have come out in recent years and the reasons for their existence. This post is for people who need concrete for something, but don't know which kind of mixer to buy or use. This article will hopefully clear things up. In other words, this post will not really be about the specific subject of this blog, electric cement mixers, but about explaining the basics. I will probably go into explaining electric cement mixers in the next post. ...Or, I will definitely do that.

Concrete can be mixed by hand, using a wheelbarrow or the, later developed, tarp.
Usually though, a cement mixer is used for this. The cement mixer mixes water, sand or gravel and cement to make the end product concrete. The cement mixer often has a drum that revolves. For the times where the volume of concrete is not very large, a portable mixer might very well do the job; a variant which is good for construction workers as the window of opportunity to use the concrete before it hardens is increased.

As new types of concrete are released into the market - such as ready-mix and prestressed/precast concrete - the demands for homogenity in the concrete, and for shortening the mix times, have increased; the most for the prestressed/precast type.
To adhere to these new circumstances, the technology has adapted to the higher demands. This has resulted in new mixers: the twin-shaft mixers, used for high strength concrete, with their high intensity mixing and short time to mix, the drum mixers, as they are low in maintenance and time to mix are often used to make ready-mix concrete as the cost for these are most important, and the pan and planetary mixers, often used for precast- and pre-stressed concrete; where the planetary beats the pan mixers as they create mixes that are more critical. I have only pointed out the strengths of these mixers - but they also all have weaknesses.

I hope you got anything out of this post, and that it can somehow help you for whatever reason you could need this information. Thank you for reading!
