Learning to touch type is not as complex as it initially seems. An hour or two of dedication per day and you will soon be typing fast and accurately. The benefits that come with touch typing are not few; especially for a person whose job involves a lot of typing. Staying on top of your job requires you to stay ahead of your competitors, and if you want to stay ahead of the competition then you need to make sure that all your skills are in place; typing included.

If you are not sure about exactly how good you are at typing, then a typing test is the first thing you should think of. Take up one of the online tests and it will assess your accuracy and speed. This should give you a fair idea of how much practice you need. After the test you can take up a typing tutorial and this will give you the initial guidance you need to learn touch typing. If you think that taking a typing test repeatedly as practice will only get you bored, you can try some of the typing games that are also easily accessible online. These games build your typing skill by giving you the practice you need camouflaged in a game.

Before you take up any of these however; you will need to get yourself adapted to the basics of typing. Some tutorials start you off with these, but if they dont you should search for typing basics and familiarize yourself with them before you start touch typing.
The basics include guidelines on finger placement on the keyboard, which keys correspond to which fingers and other basics such as posture etc.

It is not possible to master all these at once. It requires practice and dedication, and the faster you start working on your skills, the sooner you will be typing with your eyes on the monitor rather than the keyboard.
