Experiencing New And Exciting Cultural Horizons While You Teach English In South Korea

By:

Korea is called the 'Soul of Asia', and for good reason. It is a country of ancient fortresses, soaring mountains, futuristic cities and glorious palaces and more than 50 million people.

The experiences that are offered here are endless. Ancient temples lie hidden amongst the twisted side streets of Seoul while secluded mountain towns exude a bohemian atmosphere. You can unwind at one of the calming hot spring spas or enjoy some delicious kimchi soup.

If you enjoy travelling and have thought about teaching English in another country then Korea might just be what you are looking for. Korea offers a vibrant metropolis, a traditionally rural community, and a laid back and relaxed beach-side town all in one. If you are under the age of 55, hold a BA/BSc degree in any field and are a UK, Canadian, USA, South African, New Zealand, Australia or Irish national then teaching English in this country could give you the opportunity to experience some new and exciting cultural horizons. You will be able to share your own knowledge and be part of the local community, all while doing something that you love to do.

There will be different locations for you to choose from, such as Busan, Chungnam, Daejeon, Gwangju, Gyeonggi, Incheon, Jeonbuk, Seoul and Ulsan, and you can also decide if you want to teach in a public school or a private school. You never have to feel as though you are on your own either, as there will be hundreds of other first language English teachers from all over the world with whom you will be sharing this once in a lifetime teaching experience.

Teaching in a public school offers very secure working conditions as the Korean government sponsors the teaching programs at these schools. Benefits could also include a free private apartment that is fully furnished, a round trip air ticket, completion bonus, settlement allowance, medical insurance and generous vacations. Placements for teaching are either five months or ten months.

You will normally teach about 22 classes every week at the public schools, and you will have the assurance of sharing your classes with a Korean co-teacher in case the students do not understand something. Your salary will be a minimum of 1.9 million KRW each month. You will of course, also get full training with orientation before you embark on your teaching skills.

The orientation is just to let you know about Korea and its people as a whole, their culture, and of course how to handle a mischievous student! The added bonus is that no experience is necessary to teach English in South Korea.

Teacher accommodation found in Korea has a high standard and is comparable to Western accommodation. You can certainly live in style and comfort while you teach English in South Korea. Most apartments will include an en-suite bathroom with a hot water shower, a cooking facility with electric or gas hobs and sometimes a refrigerator, microwave, pots, pans, utensils and kettle, a dining area with a table plus chairs, a bedroom with queen bed and bedding, cable TV, high-speed internet access, under floor heating in winter, air conditioning in summer, plus a washing machine!
