Experience Excellent Weight Loss And Fitness Results

What happens in the dryer when your absolutely favourite clothes - that great pair of jeans or that perfect-fit shirt - seem to shrink into oblivion? It can be embarrassing to discover that those favourite clothes don't fit anymore, and that the dryer really had nothing to do with it. When it's time to trim down, so that the 'faves' will fit again, what are some sound strategies for weight loss and fitness? What actually works?

Do weight loss and fitness have to go together, or can you reach your weight loss goals without fitness? We've all heard that cutting down on fat is important, along with making healthy choices, but will this alone bring the desired results?

Research on this topic has been extensive, where dieters have been tracked for several years in order to monitor long term results. The bane of dieters - reaching their ideal weight, then gaining all the weight back, plus more, has finally been discovered.

Metabolism is the key, which is generally defined as a 'biochemical process' that takes place in the body. It is commonly applied to the way food is processed internally and converted into energy. As soon as a person starts a diet, the body will automatically slow down the metabolism, as the body is not receiving as much food as it is used to.

Dieting by restricting calories only can result in the desired weight loss goal being reached. However, as soon we have reached our goal weight, and attempt to reintroduce normal calorie intake to the body, it responds by squirreling away all of that wonderful food coming its way, in case there is another 'famine' in the future (which the body thought was occurring when we were restricting calories). When the body squirrels away its food, it is stored as, you guessed it, FAT.

When we diet without exercising, up to 25 percent of the weight lost can be in the form of muscle tissue. This means that when the diet is done, and the body does its storing away of nutrients for another 'famine, ' the muscle tone we had prior dieting has been reduced by up to 25 percent, and in addition, we have now created more body fat - making it harder to lose weight again in the future. This cycle can indeed appear to be the eternal bane of dieters.

Is there a way out of this gloomy pattern? It turns out that fitness is the answer to metabolism issues. Metabolism actually increases, rather than decreases, when dieters opt to exercise along with restricting calories. This, in turn, leads to greater levels of lean muscle tissue, and promotes a stable weight level once their goal weight has been reached.

What types of fitness activity is recommended? Strength training has been found to be the key, by growing indispensable muscle tissue, according to research, with cardiovascular training supporting the weight bearing portion of the exercise. Cancer prevention agencies around the world are now advising that 30 minutes of exercise is needed daily, to prevent disease, and also to promote health and healthy weight levels.

Like two peas in a pod, weight loss and fitness are inseparable. Make it your goal to make time for fitness when you set that weight loss goal and enjoy the rewards of making fitness a priority.
