Excellent Punk Rock Percussionists Of The Past 10 Years.

By: NickyWalker

At the start of the list is a comparatively fresh drummer, many might argue that he isn't truly a punk drummer and more of a metal one but I disagree, true he's keen to slow it down and do some death metal fills but at heart he's a born and bred punk rocker-
Steve Jocz -AKA "Stevo"Born 23/07/1981. Steve is mainly renowned for his work in the Canadian pop punk group Sum 41. A very fast and tight drummer, he can turn the feel of a song instantaneously. Only one of the few punk drummers that can record cheesy metal rolls and get away with handling it. Steve is also famous for his toilet comedy which is a known indicator of punk maturity/immaturity- you choose!
Travis BarkerBorn on November 14, 1975. Perhaps most renowned for his work in Blink 182 he's also banged away for lots of other groups. Travis sits in at number 4 not simply because of his intense speed and timing but because of his expansive variety of styles from Hip-hop to Punk, Country to Pop.
Tr Cool (real name Frank Edwin Wright III)Born on December 9, 1972. He is one of the original (pretty much) 3 piece which makes up Green Day. Swaying a lot closer to the pop section of punk as a drummer, Tr certainly aided Green Day attain the universal audience that propelled them to megastars. If he been yet one more, high speed, unoriginal drummer the group would have struggled to grab such a considerable marketplace.
Josh FreeseBorn December 25, 1972. Freese is mainly renowned for his work in The Vandals however can list lots of other groups and accomplishments. A high speed drummer he can also slow it right down and merge with the finest and has performed for Guns N' Roses, Kelly Clarkson and Avril Lavigne as if to demonstrate the point. Josh's individual recordings sometimes reveal a deliberate, more refrained drumming fashio proving that speed isn't the lot however for my part I prefer the Vandals sound.
Erik Sandin-AKA "Smelly"Born July 29, 1966. Erik is the lasting drummer for NOFX. Erik was a founder part of the group but departed two years after in 1983. In 1986 Sandin was persuaded to re-join the group but suffered from heroin dependence until 1992 when thankfully he booked into a rehabilitation clinic and has been clean constantly since. Erik might not be the top of everyones list, for somebody that understands the flawlessness of NOFX then there is no challenge.

Even though Nicky has grown up (a little) and spends his hours working for call handling service providers, he continues to be a giant enthusiast of punk. Even his hair's a bit more sane these days too.
