Cover letters in the standard format all look the same and will be quickly skimmed over and moved past.

If you can find a way to make your cover letter stand out from the others you will be putting yourself into a much better position when it comes to getting hired. There are several things that you can do to make your resume the most effective and most attention grabbing.

1. The first and most important tip for creating a cover letter that will grab the attention of the reviewer is to write your cover letter with confidence and write it to be specific to the position you are applying for.

You can do this by using specific words that will shine a light on the skills and experience that you have. Tell them why you would be the best choice and what benefits you can bring to the company if you are selected for the position. Be confident but be careful not to cross the line into cockiness. You want them to know that you are capable of doing the job and sure that you can do it well.

2. The next tip is to make your cover letter specific to the position that you are applying for. For example, if you are applying for a management position, be sure to include your team management and production management experience. They will be more interested in this than if you were to include something about your experience in a warehouse environment.

If you are applying for a warehouse environment position you will tell all about the warehouse machinery you have operated and the types of freight you have been responsible for. They will not need to hear about your ability to type very quickly or your knowledge of building a computer. Make your topics relevant and you will get much further.

3. Always remember that your cover letter is going to serve as a first impression for the prospective employer. You need to take the time to ensure that your cover letter is properly written with no errors in your grammar. A poorly written cover letter, with mistakes in spelling and grammar, will quickly be turned to the side and forgotten.

You want your resume to stand out and to make a positive impact on the person that is reviewing it. Be sure to choose your words carefully and really shine a light on your abilities and experience. Tell them why they should choose you and they are certain to be more interested in learning mroe about you.

4. As you prepare your cover letter for submission, think about how it would read to someone who was looking for the best possible candidate for their open position.

Ask yourself, "would I hire this person?" If the answer is yes then think about what you can add or take away that will make them even more interested. Your ability to make a great first impression will make the difference between getting a call for an interview and getting a "no thanks" letter in the mail before you have had a chance to meet them in person.
