Everything You'll Need To Remember For University, From Cleaning Supplies To Cold Tablets

Going to university is a nightmare, you'll be travelling to an alien place where it's more than likely that you know nobody; if my brother hadn't been to university before me, I would have forgotten half of the things I needed. This article will go through ideas for things you may want to take to university, from kitchen equipment to cleaning supplies, medicines to notepads.

When people leave for university, it is usually the first time they have lived away from home. Meaning that, until this time, items such as bleach and polish have magically appeared in the house. Everybody jokes about students living in squalor, which in some cases is true, but if you want to avoid getting seriously ill, you should aim to give everything a quick clean at least once a fortnight if not more often. The basic cleaning supplies you'll need are bleach, a toilet brush, furniture polish, window polish and cloths. You may also want to get some antibacterial wipes so you can use them to quickly mop up any spills.

One of the first things that second year students will warn you about when you get to university is the dreaded fresher's flu; it's like the normal flu but a thousand times worse. Even if you have the strongest immune system in the world, you should take cold tablets, paracetamol, ibuprofen and tablets to soothe a sore throat. It's highly likely that you will catch some sort of sickness in your first year so register with your university doctor as soon as you get there so that if you do get ill, you'll be seen as soon as possible.

Many people think all they need for university is a few bits of cutlery, a saucepan, a bowl, a plate and a frying pan. Then when they arrive they have to do a mad dash to the shops to pick up all the things they've forgotten. Unless you're thinking of living off of ready meals and takeaways for the duration of university, you'll need a knife to chop vegetables with, a peeler and a spatula. Go through your kitchen at home to see the kind of things you'll need to make your favourite meals and make a list.

It may seem obvious, but you'll need notebooks for university. As many subjects involve different modules it's advisable to get different pads for different modules so your notes are coherent and easier to revise from. You may also want to consider a few ring binders so you can store any handouts. A diary or calendar will be useful too so you can mark the days when important assignments are due and start them in advance to avoid the night before rush.

University is one of the best times of your life; you'll make friends for life and have stories to tell that will last a lifetime. Taking the things you need is important if you want to avoid stress on moving in day; if you're in doubt ask your parents to advise the type of cleaning supplies and kitchen equipment you'll need in order to live alone.
