Everything You Want Is Waiting In Your Warehouse

Imagine that there is a big warehouse, a large brick building off an industrial park road. Across the building there are many large grey doors. Each door has a name written on it, clear and in black letters.

Your name is on one of the doors. Behind the heavy door is a loading dock filled with many things. In it await the workers, ready at any time to lift the door and to begin your deliveries. They sip their coffee and chat, waiting. When the days seem too long sometimes they nap among the items.

Sometimes they talk about the time in which they nearly made the delivery. Don't you remember it? Once they heard you make a request. For behind the door with your name on it lays all that you have ever really wanted, the home of your dreams, the car, the job, the relationships. They laugh as they remember the time they were most excited. You had requested the car and it was nearly delivered to you.

They heard your thinking, your desire to own that dark blue convertible with the white leather seats soft as butter. They heard your request, saw the picture you had in your mind of yourself cruising in your new car, smelling that new car smell as you drove up and down the coast, hugging the beach road. You could feel yourself in the car, feel the wind in your hair and sensed the exuberance of the experience.

In that moment the alarm went off in the warehouse. A request had been made. The workers dropped their coffee cups; they cleared a path for the car and gasped in awe as they pulled back its protective cover marveling at its shiny metallic skin and its welcoming shape. They were so excited to make the delivery. The warehouse door was lifted, letting in a wisp of long forgotten fresh air. The workers started to back the card down the delivery ramp. Then it happened.

They heard the cancellation. They heard you thinking once more, telling yourself that you could not afford the car, you needed to save for later in life, that the new promotion might not be a dependable career. With a sag in your shoulders you cancelled your order.

How often does that happen? That you want something, you envision it, it is within reach and yet you don't pursue it? It could be hesitating to approach someone who could be a new friend or a lifelong relationship or neglecting to go after a promotion or a job because you don't feel qualified. What if you did not cancel your order but simply took that step, confident that it would all work out somehow. What if you remembered that your warehouse was full and that all was meant for you as your name is on the door. What are you holding back pursuing? What requests have you failed to turn in?
