In construction, there is a lot of partnering that happens. This is mostly with regard to the materials you use. If for example, you're building yourself something with concrete and you need to fasten things together like mortar joints for brick walls or blocks, you can easily put these together with the help of lag shields. As was mentioned, these work together with another item and these are referred to as lag bolts. Lag anchors are basically made out of material like Zamac alloy. It's the hardest of all masonry materials and when you're using the right kind of shields, you also don't have to drill as much to get these fasteners in. Lag shields are referred to by people in construction in many names. Some call them lag screw shields and some call them lag screw anchors. Others even call these the lag screw expansion anchor or the sup-r-lags. Either way you call them, they're still the two part expansion shield for fastening things together. You see these shields are made in a way that it's got a self contained unit. You have the shell like part which is equipped with threads and is tapered internally. On the outside of the shield, you see a series of ribs that are pretty circumferential. These run from the bottom going up to almost the full length of the shield.

On the back end of this, you have two ribs. They're equally spaced and they protrude past the diameter of the whole anchor. This makes it easy for you to turn the lag screw. Even without lubrication, you can turn this screw and drill it in in less the time. Now that you've fastened something onto the the anchor, you won't have any difficulty unbolting objects from it and removing it. As was mentioned, these sup-r-lags are made of Zamac. This is a zinc alloy and a highly rust proof material. You only have to choose between the long lag shields or the short ones in your construction.

When you're anchoring objects to high grade concrete, it's best to make use of short lag shield anchor. These also work best with base materials that are so thick, you can't use a long lag screw to fasten objects. Long shields are used for the opposite materials, lower grade base materials. If you need strength in fastening things, you'll get all the strength with long lag shields. For light to medium duty with materials like blocks, concrete and bricks, lag screws are the answer. You only have to make the right measurements with your projects to make sure you're using the right length of lag screw.

Remember that the screw tip has to be coming out of the bottom of the lag shields to ensure that you've got the right expansion in your construction work.
