Everything About Drafting Chair Features

For designers and most sketchers alike a drafting chair truly is a blessing. Drafting chairs are probably the only tool that designers will agree that provide both elements of relaxation and a lot of utility. They help prevent the magnitude of sprains, aches and other bodily troubles very efficiently. Quite a lot of the time, drafting stools and drafting chairs are terms used interchangeably. The real comparison however is largely different. Drafting stools are no more than another health hazard all together and almost every designer will agree in unison.

Buying a drafting chair for most people is a really perplexing task since the technicalities are enough to confuse you. That is why in this snappy article we're going to check out the various elements and features of drafting chairs and try to help you make a better choice when you're ready to buy your drafting chair.

The single and most important aspect of your drafting chair is the backpiece. It is meant to give adequate support to your back and prevent those horrifying aches that drafting stools or long hours of designing on a stool may cause. Also, the backpiece helps you gain additional comfort when you're ready to take a break and kick back. It's of the highest importance that you look for a backpiece that's very ergonomic and easy on your back. Make sure the padding is good all round as well, if you're not 100% sure about the backpiece of a particular drafting chair then it's always best practice to avoid it.

Armrests can seem like the most basic element of any chair but not to the trained eye. An armrest that's as hard as a rock should generally be avoided, you don't want your chair taking hits at you while you're tired designing! Look for an armrest that's well padded and usually a little curved towards the end so you can wrap your fingers around it. Additionally, try to avoid armrests that are a little too long they might end up hitting against your table.

A foot bar (the place you rest your feet) is a huge priority to get right. Look for foot bars that are sturdy enough and avoid the ones that wobble. Additionally, check if the length of the foot bar is adjustable.

A swivel mechanism (which is basically engineering that allows you to tilt and turn sideways) should be well crafted. It should provide just about perfect flexibility nothing too sudden or totally unnecessary. A great swivel mechanism will allow you to spend more time working on your design and less time worrying about moving your chair again and again.

The best drafting chairs often come with retractable backpieces that can shift slightly backwards when you need them to and this is a great comfort benefit. Again, this isn't an absolute necessity but it is nice to have it to relax every now and again.

There are the major features of drafting chairs explained, now go get 'em!
