Everyone Can Do Their Bit To Reduce Climate Change

By:

Although there are many arguments over the true extent of climate change and what it will mean to us and future generations, in general it is something many people are concerned about.

Even if some people will make a joke about global warming and how they wouldnt mind the temperature being a bit warmer at certain times of the year, there is an acceptance that the gases pumped into the atmosphere by modern machinery and industrial processes has impacted on the future of the planet. This has led to great discussions about what can be done to reverse the impact of the industrial revolution and the years since and again, this is an area that invites great debate and discussion.

At the very least, most people should at least be looking to play their own part. It is fair to say that a single person, entity, company or even country will never do enough to completely reverse the impact of climate change, but if everyone plays their part, some impact will be made. This doesnt need a lot of effort on behalf of most people, simple steps like recycling more or switching to greener products can have an impact. Not everyone likes changing their habits, especially on the say-so of scientists or politicians, but there are benefits to be had from having a greener lifestyle.

An example can come in the simple case of a light bulb. It is not uncommon for people to need to change light bulbs on a fairly regular basis. Traditional light bulbs have always been prone to overheating and fusing because of the amount of energy that is wasted as heat as opposed to being used to create light. Switching to energy-efficient light bulbs ensures that more energy is used in the provision of light, making it less likely that the light will burn out, which means they need to be replaced less often. This is an obvious financial benefit but the fact that these bulbs will use less energy will help reduce energy bills, which in these times of uncertainty over future supplies and big price rises by the energy suppliers has to be of benefit to every household.

Many people will hold off from switching to a greener lifestyle because they have doubts over the veracity of claims made by those who extol the dangers of climate change, but most people accept there is a need for a change in behaviour. There is no great need for people to overhaul their lifestyle, although they can if they want, but making little changes can ensure that a person can feel confident they are at least playing their part in hopefully delaying or offsetting the worst excesses of climate change.
