Every Gardener Should Have The Right Gardening Tools

By:

You can certainly create a thriving and gorgeous garden without purchasing a bunch of equipment but the right gardening tools will definitely make the job easier. For example, why would you dig a hole with your hands when a hand trowel can do the same job? The fact is that the right tools are essential no matter what task you want to accomplish.

If you are a newer gardener figuring out which tools to use can be challenging. Here are a few of the essential tools that you need to have on hand if you want to create a beautiful garden.

No matter what "level" of gardener you are, you are going to want to have some good gardening gloves. Gardening gloves help keep your hands healthy as you work with the various parts of your garden. Using your bare hands to dig in the dirt can feel very satisfying but gloves are usually necessary for the purposes of protection. One example of this is the rosebush: wearing gardening gloves will help keep your hands safe from the sharp thorns that stick out of rose stems.

Compost and fertilizers are two substances that you never want to touch with your bare hands-make sure you wear your gloves for protection! If you are squeamish about bugs and creepy crawlies your gardening gloves give you protection against them.

Even if you only have a small patch of garden in your yard, a pitchfork is a wonderful tool to have on hand. The work a pitchfork does can also be done by a trowel or a spade but the pitchfork does it on a much larger scale. Pitchforks are great earth turners, compost movers and soil aerators. If you have your own compost pile, a pitchfork is a necessity for turning the compost as it breaks down. If you don't turn your compost pile regularly it will just harden up and you won't get any use out of it.

For gardeners who plant and work with the actual ground (instead of containers) a shovel is a necessity. If your garden is large, you should definitely purchase at least one long handled shovel to keep nearby. It is so much easier to move piles of dirt if you have a shovel on hand. These results will be much nicer than they would be if you did this by hand. Relocating a large quantity of dirt and earth could be very difficult if you try to do it without a shovel. Using a long handled shovel saves you lots of time and work while you put your garden together.

It can take some time to figure out which gardening tools you need. When you are a beginner you will be tempted to buy everything available. Rather than let yourself get talked into buying things you do not need start with a few small essentials and then add tools as you find uses for them. This will save you money, time and storage space in your gardening shed. Eventually you will be able to tell exactly which tool is needed for which gardening task you need to accomplish.
