Ever-changing Summer Holidays

With the summer vacations speedily approaching, it will soon be time to get out and shake the cobwebs out of swimsuits, arm bands, deckchairs and the sun cream. This year, unfortunately, will be slightly different to those in the past for many of us. You see, when you get a bit older several things happen to you, two of which are that your habits change, and your body starts to do things you dont want it to or it stops doing the nice or fun things that you do want it to!

Firstly, we change in our minds, and that causes many new habits and the halting of plenty of old ones. For example, we take life more slowly, moan more about noise until we become deaf enough not to hear it, and we sit down and read more books. We stop doing the physically dangerous stuff and stop driving fast or aggressively, although in later years we are probably as dangerous, or more so than tear-away youths. Reading novels rarely appeals to youngsters just for the sake of parking ourselves down to relax. Yes, they read them, but only an exciting story that they race through in a few days. On summer holidays, the older folk are happy to watch swimming, surfing, kite flying, and the building of sand castles between pages of whatever novel or reading material they have chosen to take. However its not always easy for those of us over forty-five even though the lucky youngsters are perfectly able to read because their eyes are still young.

Which takes me to the physical changes. Our fat grows, not goes! We lose hair where we want it but get it in abundance where we dont want it. Our joints ache and creak and our eyesight recedes. So, this year, there will be plenty of you who, after dusting down last years beach apparel will need a trip to an opticians or their favourite online retailer to buy sun readersfor your holidays. Its not the end of the world, nor is it very expensive. Nowadays, online sales are fast becoming the quickest, cheapest and best way to buy reading glasses. Most people who all of a sudden need them for bright light will already know what strength their eyes need, so its just a case of finding a good deal online and ordering them to be sent before going away on your holidays. That is, of course, if your eyes are good enough to read the screen and your credit card!

So, once you have understood that each year will never be quite the same as the previous, think carefully about which items need to be taken and which new ones might need to be purchased. It would be an awful shame, and probably rather embarrassing, to fail to get into last years Speedos or forget how to snorkel due to old age. Or just damn-right frustrating to take a great book from home that you have been excited about, only to discover that you are unable to read in such bright light without a pair of suitable sun readers.
